A small railway with a big place in Los Angeles

Angels Flight makes the slope of Bunker Hill part of the downtown experience. The funicular’s two cars, Sinai and Olivet, are a recognizable piece of Los Angeles history. A short ride offers a different way to connect the streets below with California Plaza above.

A hillside connection

The railway first opened in 1901 and later moved from its original location. Its lower entrance is on Hill Street across from Grand Central Market; the upper station is at California Plaza. The scale of the railway makes the changing elevation easy to appreciate in a compact visit.

Plan the ride

Use the operator’s current information to check fares, operating hours, and service status before building your day around a ride. Start at the entrance that fits the rest of your outing. If someone in your group needs step-free access, confirm the available route with the operator before arriving.

A place to visit. A neighborhood to understand.

If you are exploring Downtown Los Angeles as a place to live, make a second visit around an ordinary weekday. Think about the route to work, the places you would use regularly, and how a building’s surroundings fit your routine. An attraction can introduce an area; spending time nearby helps you decide what matters in a home search.
